Maths Formula for Super Eagles AFCON Win

Nigeria's Super Eagles in 2023 AFCON

A mathematical formula has been developed for Nigeria's Super Eagles win ahead of their match with Ivory Coast in the #AFCON finals holding on Sunday February 11, 2024.

This equation known as the EAGLES-3-AFCON Hypothesis made a survey of all the “physical factors” responsible for Nigeria’s wins and losses in their AFCON Finals since inception in 1957 till date, while maintaining other “abstract” and “tactical” factors in their “2023 outings” such as skills and formations as constant (k).

Nigeria had played six AFCON Finals since its inception making their first debut in 1980 winning 3 tournaments and losing 3.

The physical factors include the colour of their jersey (green or white), time (day or night), and the venue of the match (home or abroad). In this survey, the time and the venue of the match were inconsequential as they contributed little or nothing to their gains or losses. However, the colour of their jersey proved to be a determining physical factor to their gains or losses in their finals game.

The equation showed that whenever Nigeria wore their all-GREEN jersey (up & down) instead of their White jersey (with green spots or green top & white shorts) in their AFCON Finals, they usually win the trophy.

Thus: {(E) x (g) (t+v) - w} = Y

But {(E) x (w) (t+v) - g} = 0

Where E = Eagles or no of their goals
g = green jersey (up & down)
w = white jersey (or white shorts, vice versa) with ‘0’ value and,
The time t and venue v are variables; and,
Y is the winning/difference in score

Other non-physical factors such as the 2023 skills and formations are constant (k) which is also known as the Nnamanis’ constant (smiles)

In 1980, Nigeria won their first AFCON Finals 3:0 against Algeria wearing their all-GREEN jersey. In 1984 finals, however, Nigeria lost 3:1 to Cameroon after they wore green top and WHITE shorts. In 1988 again, Nigeria lost 1:0 to Cameroon in their finals after they wore WHITE jersey (up and down) in the tournament. We will come back to the 1994 tournament. In the heated year 2000 AFCON finals with Cameroon, Nigeria, again, wore WHITE jerseys and lost 4:3 to Cameroon in penalties. Luck shined upon us in 2013 after Nigeria defeated Burkina Faso with 1:0 wearing the all GREEN jersey. Beyond AFCON also, the green jersey phenomenon played out in their finals win against Argentina in the 1996 Olympics.

Nevertheless, there is a twist in the 1994 AFCON wins where Nigeria won Zambia with 2:1 wearing their white jersey, creating room for further investigation to ascertain if their WHITE apparel was antithetic to their win with Cameroon ALONE in finals and not with other countries.
