Amalgamation: Fears As Nigeria May Expire Today

Controversy ruled the polity, yesterday, over whether or not Nigeria will cease to exist as a legal entity after 12 midnight today.

A conglomeration of ethnic nationality groups said going by the Amalgamation Treaty of January 1, 1914, which joined Northern and Southern protectorates to create Nigeria with a life span of 100 years, the country will expire at 12 a.m. today.

Professor Akin Oyebode, a lawyer, said Nigeria will not expire because the amalgamation was not put in place by a treaty, but by an order in council by the British Parliament.
Nigeria

Oyebode has a soul mate in legal icon, Professor Itse Sagay (SAN), who argued that there was no law that automatically gives a treaty 100 years life span.

Sources revealed that the former PFN leader declared to his partners that the deal was for $1 million instead of $10 million that was the actual offer by the investors after which he was said to have mandated them to pay 10 per cent of the money to his church as tithe.

2015: The Politics of Enugu East Senatorial Zone

Chime
ENUGU EAST is reputable in the politics of Enugu State because of the heavyweights it parades – former governors Jim Nwobodo and Chimaroke Nnamani, former Senate President, Ken Nnamani and incumbent deputy Governor, Sunday Onyebuchi, among others.

The area is again in the news because of two aspirants to the position of senator for 2015 - the incumbent Senator, Gilbert Nnaji and the Chief of Staff to Enugu Government House, Mrs. Ifeoma Nwobodo.
The popularity Mrs. Nwobodo has acquired working with Governor Sullivan Chime over the years, her wealth and influence among other factors, have placed her close to power. She is reputed to be instrumental to most political appointments and elective positions in the zone. This, apart from being close to the governor is said to be her greatest strength.

Jonathan Replies Obasanjo

I wish to formally acknowledge your letter dated December 2, 2013 and other previous correspondence similar to it.

You will recall that all the letters were brought to me by hand. Although both of us discussed some of the issues in those letters, I had not, before now, seen the need for any formal reply since, to me, they contained advice from a former President to a serving President. Obviously, you felt differently because in your last letter, you complained about my not acknowledging or replying your previous letters.

It is with the greatest possible reluctance that I now write this reply. I am most uneasy about embarking on this unprecedented and unconventional form of open communication between me and a former leader of our country because I know that there are more acceptable and dignified means of doing so.

But I feel obliged to reply your letter for a number of reasons: one, you formally requested for a reply and not sending you one will be interpreted as ignoring a former President.

My Second Thought on Xmas Celebration

Anti-social behavior is a trait of intelligence in a world full of conformists - Nikola Tesla

Many Christmases have come and gone and heavens did not fall. The heavenly bodies are still intact; the galaxies, cosmic and planetary forces still moving at their pace, while the earth has never stopped rotating on its axis. The days, 25th and 26th December, come and go like every other day.

But the type of frenzy that we human beings exhume at the preceding days of Xmas is nonetheless worrisome. Many have died untimely because of ‘Christmas’, others are in police cells and prisons because of Christmas, while many more will still lose their lives, in avoidable deaths, because of Xmas.

Many ladies have abandoned their husbands and true loves because of Xmas, while most government officials have looted the treasury dry during the period.

There is nothing wrong with the celebration of the birth of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ - more so the succeeding end of year, but there should be a limit to what we subject our peace over mundane things.  The increasing quest for materialism and the urge to make quick money, that we couldn’t make for the past eleven months, should be tamed.

It will do our soul a good deal if we can just live our normal lives during the yuletide. Remember, just like the world acclaimed ‘mad’ genius, Nikola Telsa, said above, it takes intelligence not to join a world full of conformists.

Exclusive: Why Rebellious Redeemed Pastors Want Pastor Adeboye Out ...their attempts on his life, and how he survived letter Bomb

Source: Global News

The Bible states in the Gospel According to St. Luke: “From now on five members in one household will be divided, three against two and two against three…” And truly this quickly manifesting in the once very happy household of God in the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) as pastors of the church have for some time now been waging war against their general overseer, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, (generally called Daddy GO by most Nigerian Christians), over his stance on some issues in the church.

Some years back when the pastors of  the church were becoming prominent in the news for all the wrong reasons like fraud, extra-marital affairs and all sorts of things not befitting the church, the GO was said to have suggested to them in a pastors’ meeting that they should together swear to God that they would not delve into such things, but it was alleged that the pastors refused to take the decision and this it was, according to sources, the reason the man of God decided to take a hard stance on pastors of the church engaging in activities that will drag the name of the church in the mud again.

In an interview he granted to the Hausa Service of the Voice of America (VOA), Mr. Umar called on Nigerians to stop celebrating Obasanjo as a sincere statesman. Instead, he accused Mr. Obasanjo of spearheading a secret agenda tied to his personal political interests.

Mr. Umar, one of the former military officers to have opposed the annulment of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, stated that it was dangerous for Nigerians to uncritically take Mr. Obasanjo at his word. Letter to Jonathan: Nigerians Lambast Obasanjo

Activists, lawyers and others have likened former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s letter bombing President Goodluck Jonathan as that of a pot calling kettle black, saying the former leader is guilty of the same offence.
Obasanjo had in an 18-page letter accused Jonathan of plunging the nation into darkness.
He accused President Jonathan, among others, of promoting corruption, ethnicity; having a killer squad; tackling Boko Haram with kid gloves and aspiring for a second term in office when he said he will only run for a single term.
Reacting to Obasanjo’s letter, National Publicity Secretary, Afenifere, Yinka Odumakin, said Obasanjo was as guilty as Jonathan as he did worst things than President Jonathan when he was in power.
“Nigerians should be weary of Obasanjo whenever he said something; it is either he is trying to settle scores, even though Jonathan is facing challenges,” he said.
Odumakin urged Nigerians not to allow Obasanjo to deceive them with his frank talks as whatever he did “is self-serving but that does not mean Jonathan should not address corruption.”
Convener, Coalition Against Corrupt Leaders, CACOL, Comrade Debo Adeniran said Obasanjo’s letter is like that of a pot calling kettle black.

Mandela Was Angry With Nigerian Leaders

The late anti-apartheid hero, Nelson Mandela, was angry with Nigerian leaders over their treatment of Nigerian people. Though he acknowledged their effort in the struggle to end the apartheid, but was miffed by the level of corruption and poverty in Nigeria.
Hear him: “You know I am not very happy with Nigeria. I have made that very clear on many occasions. Yes, Nigeria stood by us more than any nation, but you let yourselves down, and Africa and the black race very badly. Your leaders have no respect for their people. They believe that their personal interests are the interests of the people. They take people’s resources and turn it into personal wealth. There is a level of poverty in Nigeria that should be unacceptable. I cannot understand why Nigerians are not more angry than they are."

This was an excerpt of an interview conducted in his home in South Africa in 2007 by Dr Hakeem Baba Ahmed.

2015: Obasanjo lambasts Jonathan, accuses him of many evils bedevilling Nigeria.

An apparently angry and frustrated ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo has written what clearly competes as one of the most acerbic letters in modern history to President Goodluck Jonathan, accusing him of ineptitude and of taking actions calculated at destroying Nigeria.
“Nigeria is bleeding and the hemorrhage must be stopped,” Mr. Obasanjo said in the 18-page letter dated December 2, 2013.
He said Mr. Jonathan has failed to deliver on his promises to the Nigerian people, stem corruption, promote national unity and strengthen national security.

Cook with Firewood...Smoke 60 Sticks of Cigarette a Day

Research findings globally has shown that people who cook with firewood may be inhaling not less than 60 sticks of cigarette daily which has been the cause of death among many after the dreaded HIV/AIDS and Malaria.
Niger State Commissioner for Science and Technology Dr Mustapha Lemu who disclosed this in Minna on Monday while addressing the press at the end of the state executive council meeting noted that there was therefore need for Nigerians to shift from the use of firewood in all their cooking and adopt the use of cleaner and safer method.
