In 1990, a Nigerian born Gabriel Oyibo, formerly a professor of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Bridgeport in Connecticut, claimed to have solved the Unified Field Theory, with the proposed equation:
In Physics, the Unified Field Theory is a theory that is capable of unifying the two theories upon which all modern physics rests, which are: the General Relativity and Quantum Field theory.
It is regarded as a THEORY OF EVERYTHING (a single theory capable of describing all phenomena in the universe). It is a theory Albert Einstein sought for unsuccessfully in his life time.
Known as GAGUT (God Almighty Grand Unified Theorem), Oyibo sums up the whole of creation: How the world and the universe came into existence into one simple mathematical equation:
Gij, j=0
He claimed that GAGUT answers most fundamental question for humanity which is: What is God or what is Universe? By saying that God represented by Gij is an entity that remains unchangeable, where the comma in the equation represents change.
So from the equation, a change in an entity called Gij is equal to zero. Meaning that God never changes.
For the believers Gij represents God, but for the scientists, Gij represents the Unified Force that produces the power that runs the universe.
Prof Oyibo believed his mathematical formula holds promise to incurable diseases such as AIDS, Cancer, Parkinson, Alzheimer's and other incurable diseases. He also believed that GAGUT can be used in solving the problem of hunger in Africa and the world's terrorism.
Although it remained a controversial discovery, his monographs are found in prestigious universities such as Harvard, Stanford, MIT, Princeton, ETH Zurich, UC in Berkeley, Yale, Cornell, McGill University (Canada), Columbia University, Los Alamos and Bell Laboratories.
On why the West or the international mathematical community is not embracing him, Oyibo responded:
"It is the understanding of some people that the race that will be blessed with secret code to the universe will be considered the most blessed or the most gift race. So you don't expect the Europeans to celebrate a gift that was given to Africa which they wanted for themselves."
Oyibo recalled that Europeans were called to world leadership in the 17th century through Isaac Newton's discovery of Law of Gravity; and the Jews to world leadership in the 20th century through Albert Einstein's Theory of Relativity. Therefore GAGUT can propel Africa to world leadership.
Although many see him as a lunatic or someone who has slipped into psychosis, it is instructive to know that NO mathematician has been able to disprove his equation, mathematically.
