There are indications that after pressures from the Presidency, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur has submitted his resignation letter this Tuesday to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Presidency indicating his
vacation of office. This was revealed by a source from the party’s National Headquarters, Wadata Plaza, Wuse 5, Abuja.
It was revealed that the resignation is to take effect Wednesday January 15, 2014. It was gathered that the National Chairman was forced to resign after a brief meeting with the President who impressed on him that he must resign or face the consequences. The President was said to have reminded Tukur of a letter from the Independent National Electoral Commission [INEC] stating that the national executive council of the PDP was illegally constituted. The President, it was said, told the embattled Chairman that the letter can be recalled into play.
Tukur was known to have proved stubborn and adamantly resisted to quit office until the National Executive Council (NEC) and the National Working Committee (NWC) were revealed to him to have resolved to pass a vote of no-confidence on him when they convene on Thursday, January 16, 2014 to deliberate on the crisis in the party. Tukur was said to have hurriedly sent in a resignation letter – and dated his resignation January 15, 2014 – after the Muslim holiday to avert the
vote of no confidence on him by party’s structural hierarchy.
