More Houses To Be Demolished in Abuja In 2014 - FCTA

The coordinator of the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC), Arch. Reuben Okoya, has said the council demolished a total of 4,023 illegal structures and 6,350 shanties in and around the FCC in 2013.
AMMC is a parastatal of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) responsible for granting permits for development, monitoring and enforcement of physical development in the territory.

Addressing members of the FCT press corps at the 2013 end of year media roundtable, Okoya told developers who would not go through the right channels before erecting structures to expect more demolition this year.
He maintained that the council was taking its responsibility of safe guarding and maintaining the FCT masterplan seriously, saying that the council would not tolerate arbitrary developments within the Federal Capital City (FCC).
He said “the department takes its functions very seriously. If anybody violates the city masterplan, your building will be sealed or removed. El-Rufai did that very well and the current minister is also doing that. I can assure you that the department is doing everything within the law to ensure that residences are not used for business premises.
