Bingu wa Mutharika
Bingu wa Mutharika was the President of Malawi from May 2004 until his death. He died on the 6th of April, 2012, after suffering a heart attack. The 78-year-old was rushed to hospital in the capital Lilongwe after collapsing , and was reportedly flown to South Africa for emergency treatment.
During his two terms in office he was noted for presiding over as theChairperson of the African Union in 2010–2011, as well as several domestic controversies.
Chinua Achebe
The magical writer, Prof Chinua Achebe, is the father of modern African literature, and one of the worlds greatest writer. His début novel, Things Fall Apart is the most celebrated African literature in the world.
Achebe died on 21st March, 2013 in a hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, after a brief illness.
Before his death, he was the David and Marianna Fisher University Professor and professor of Africana Studies at Brown University in Rhode Island. He was 83 years.
Nelson Mandela
Anti-apartheid hero, Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela was the President of South Africa from 1994 to 1999. The great Madiba suffered a recurrent respiratory infection, He died on 5 December 2013 at the age of 95.
Over 100 Head of States, including President Barack Obama of US, attended his burial in Johannesburg. The Anti-apartheid hero, Mandela, is perhaps the greatest known figure in this 21st century so far.
