...the Atiku/Buhari Phenomenon
"Be careful. Be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees." (Matt. 16:6).
This is not a religious article, neither does it have a religious connotation. As a matter of fact, I separate my activism from my religious lifestyle for I know there are Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, Muslims, atheists, agnostics, Christians and many others; amongst freedom fighters.
However, in the context of this article I 'm proud to draw the topic from the background where I'm coming from - the bible.
The Fulanis' are the most politically witty tribe in Nigeria. Despite being regarded as nomads and most uneducated tribe, they know how to break truce amongst warring factions and align together politically in order to keep themselves in power.
In late 2010 after Goodluck Jonathan replaced late Yar'adua as the substantive president and was seeking for his party (PDP) ticket for a first term in office for the 2011 elections; the North led by Adamu Ciroma gathered themselves together and picked four people among them from whom they will choose who to support. The four were: Ibrahim Babangida, Atiku Abubakar, Aliyu Gusau and then Gov. Bukola Saraki.
Despite being a two-term governor in Kwara State, Saraki was weened out of equation because the North viewed him as not being a "complete" fulani man. They claimed he was partly Yoruba and partly Fulani.
IBB and Gusau were rejected for not being politically relevant in the contemporary Nigeria. It was on this premise that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, whom OBJ warned GEJ not to underrate, became the consensus candidate of the North for the 2011 elections.
The primaries came and gone; and with the help of OBJ and PDP governors, Jonathan was able to defeat Atiku at the primaries in Eagle square. But irked by the humiliation of their candidate, the north - mainly Fulanis'- directed their machinery to support another Fulani candidate in the race, Muhammadu Buhari and his then CPC.
In those days, Tinubu's ACN had picked former EFCC Chair, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, as their sole presidential candidate. But being a typical Fulani man who understood the difference between a personal ambition and their Fulani's ambition, Nuhu Ribadu went to Buhari and pledged to step down for him if concessions where to be made to him (Ribadu).
Although they couldn't reach an agreement, this particular move which was without the consent of Tinubu, infuriated the Lion of Bourdilion and Jagaban of Lagos State, and made him disgrace Ribadu at the polls by ensuring that Jonathan won in all the SouthWest ACN controlled states except, Osun State.
Meanwhile the Fulani north which had directed their machinery to support Buhari's CPC, got disappointed at the polls and unleashed mayhem across the north, killing people mainly southerners including corp members.
Similar scenario played out in 2015 where the Fulani's north made it emphatically that there would be no Nigeria if their candidate Buhari did not win. The Yoruba political chessmaster, Tinubu, who saw the opportunity in it and cashed in on it to project Buhari, with the hope that he (Tinubu) will become the new Nigerian godfather, but the Fulani taught him a bitter lesson he'll never forget in his lifetime by making sure he is reduced to nothing in this administration.
Now 2019 is around the corner; and with INEC projecting the election to be around February 2019, the peak of the electoral campaigns, killings, threats, and political shenanigans of the Fulanis' will be predominant in this 2018.
The south will be coerced, threatened and made to believe that it is the turn of the north; or that it's only the north that holds the ace to Nigeria's development, forgetting that this same North that has ruled Nigeria mostly since independence without anything to show for it.
Already Atiku is dangling his carrot and throwing his hat to the presidential ring. No doubt Atiku is a better devil than Buhari, but what Nigeria needs now is not another leader - not even a good leader. I have said it many times that even if Mandela or any of the world's most respected leader is made Nigeria's president, he will still fail.
The problem of Nigeria does not lie in its leadership but on its structural foundation. Nigeria's foundation was designed to fail ab initio. The country can ONLY develop when it returns to full regionalism or total balkanization. For me I go with the latter. Nigeria needs to be broken up into different, smaller, homogeneous segments.
The Last Man Standing
Unlike the Fulani, the most politically naive group in Nigeria is the Ohaneze Ndigbo. The masses and average Igbo youths have proven to be political wiser than their selfish leaders.
What Ohaneze failed to understand is that the feudal Fulani who are the owners of this dubious entity called Nigeria cannot be pacified by being politically correct. Ohaneze Ndigbo should look back and learn from what happended to Aguiyi Ironsi, Jonathan and others.
The shameless Ohaneze Ndigbo and Southeast governors conspired with the enemy to decimate her children who are crying for justice and equal rights. They even joined the enemy to tag their children 'terrorists' all in a bid to fill their stomachs with crumbs falling from the masters table. This is an enemy who have refused to acknowledge that their own children, Boko Haram, were terrorists.
A prophet and lone voice in the wilderness of Nigeria as such have never been seen in this generation, was targeted for kill. Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, a liberator of his people was marked for extermination. Hitherto, after the raid on his house no one has seen him again.
But just like our Lord Jesus Christ told his disciples about the Pharisees; what Mazi Nnamdi Kanu will be telling his Biafran people in this 2018 is:
"Be careful. Be on your guard against the yeast of the Fulani's."
