The Shoprite 'Madness' in Enugu

Customers scrambling for goods on a Tuesday
morning in Enugu Shoprite
Ever since the amiable governor of Enugu State, Sullivan Chime converted the popular Polo Park at GRA, Enugu, into a shopping mall, with a South African retailer and fast food Company, Shoprite, occupying a strategic unit there, there have been a wide frenzy among the indigenes as the mall has literary been turned into a Mecca of sort.

Enugu Shoprite on a Tuesday Morning
Unlike in major cities of Nigeria, where shopping are mostly done during weekends and outside working hours, that of Enugu is always filled up with customers both on working days and on working hours including those who just came for sightseeing …lol.

Feelers believe that the reason is because Shoprite is the only visible shopping mall in Enugu unlike what is obtainable in Lagos and Abuja. But I don’t think so as the recently opened Shoprite in Ibadan has reportedly been hit with low patronage with Ibadan indigenes going back to their conventional markets.

The attraction of the Enugu Shoprite has, however, made some women to be wearing all manner of skimpy dresses and bikinis, made only for beach, to the place apparently to get patronage from the men folks; leaving some visitors wondering if the place is really a mall or a night club.
