Five injured in auto crash in Enugu

No fewer than five persons sustained injuries in a ghastly auto crash that occurred along the Ogui Road in the heart of Enugu State capital on Friday afternoon.
The crash which caused traffic gridlock for some hours on the busy dual-carriageway occurred at about 2pm. Three vehicles were involved.

An eyewitness, who identified himself as Obinna Njoku, said that he was driving ahead of a Toyota Camry when the driver who was on top speed brushed a car which he was trying to overtake dangerously.
“In a bid to runaway, the driver increased his speed further and to avoid hitting a Sports Utility Vehicle, SUV, ahead of him, slammed on his brake suddenly forcing his car to fly in the air.
“He landed on top of the SUV ahead of him and all the motorists and business operators around the scene, who heard the loud bang, took to their heels. The young man who was carrying someone on front seat,  drove like James Bond and everybody around was surprised at the level of speed that could make a car fly to the top of another car,” Njoku said.
It was gathered that when the two occupants came out of the car they were almost mobbed by the people around who thought they were car snatchers but they reportedly pleaded claiming that they were only trying to runaway after brushing another car few meters from the scene of the accident.
Policemen from Ogui Police Division later towed the two vehicles to the police station.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu said when contacted that the incident was purely an auto accident and not car snatching as was being rumoured.
He said that the two vehicles involved in the accident had been towed to Ogui police station while investigations have commenced to determine what really happened.
