General Buhari's bulletproof car after the bombing |
It was gathered that General
Muhammadu Buhari was almost killed in the second bomb
explosion that rocked Kaduna town this afternoon in which more than 20
persons were killed.
The first
explosion had occurred around 12:44pm local time, as
a suicide bomber reportedly tried to kill Sheik
Dahiru Usman Bauchi, but failed when Bauchi escaped. Over 30 of
his followers returning from an annual Ramadan event
were killed.
Bauchi and his entourage were
returning from Murtala Square, before the attack around Alkali Road in the
heart of Kaduna GRA.
The suicide bomber was said
to having been biking with some accomplices. In the explosion, some
pedestrians were killed while many others were injured.
Information
on General Buhari is still sketchy, but he was said to have been on
the busy road and would have been affected but for sheer luck.
Eyewitnesses
and humanitarian workers say, the death toll from both explosions
has risen over 50. As of the time of this report, thousands
were rushing to their homes following a 24-hour curfew imposed on the town.
One hour after the attempted attack
on Sheik Bauchi, the second bomb explosion occurred in busy Kawo garage
axis which connects travelers from Kaduna to Zaria, Kano, Abuja and the
rest of the country.
