In the history of Nigeria policing, anytime the police gives you report of a 'preliminary investigation', forget about the concluding investigation as well, because it will NEVER be - the matter had been concluded long before the preliminary report. And once they ask you to "go about your normal business," my brother you have no choice, just go about your normal business for the sake of your stomach, because you will wait in vain for any positive development; such is the tragic country we are living in.
In late 2001, one of my uncles in Lagos who cannot even slap a fowl, was randomly picked up by the police while returning back to his house after seeing off a visitor, as a suspect. And what was his crime? That he was among those that killed Chief Bola Ige, a former Minister of Justice. (Laughs) Oh my God! Like a joke, they were taken to FCID, Panti, Yaba, and was about to be transferred to Abuja after some days, before he was traced, identified, and released.
Why do I bring this matter here? Our untrained local vigilantes have proven to be more professional in intelligence gathering than the Nigerian police.
The police commissioner in Anambra, Mr. Sani Umar, has proven to be combining the field of investigation with an art of 'imagination' or 'prophecy' while executing his job, otherwise why would a man of his professional cadre just came up with an incredible story of drug-related killings inside the church few hours after the incident happened as if he had been monitoring the situation in Ozubulu community.
Even the eye witnesses in the church revealed they were GUNMEN, but the police insist it was a GUNMAN just to prove it was not what we were thinking.
To be honest, no matter how bizarre it may sound, we have drug lords in our various communities in Igboland and most of them are building churches with their proceeds, and they used to have problems within themselves, but none have gone to these churches to shoot people dead. In Igboland it is a sacrilege to do so - we don't kill inside the church, period! Even cultists wait for their rivals outside the church or look for them in hotels, bars, etc., if they can't find them in their house. But not in the church!
The way and manner Mr. Sani and Gov. Obiano, concluded this 'preliminary' investigation is worrisome. I remembered what happened in Kaduna in 2012, when Boko Haram detonated an IED at a spare parts market populated by Igbos tearing many people into shreds, even vehicle engines were blasted into pieces with cram shafts thrown away hundreds of meters off the scene. But the police in their usual manner to avoid public outcry and panic, quickly concocted a lie in their 'preliminary investigation' and told the public that it was caused by a chemical from a nearby shop where batteries are sold, oh my God! Battery chemical? For God's sake, I am a scientist and I know there's no chemical explosion from battery chemicals that could tear the enigine of a vehicle into pieces like that with human flesh littered all over the scene. That was a preliminary investigation, but till today, nobody has heard of the full investigation again. It has gone like that.
After the massacre of my people in Ukpabi Nimbo, Uzo Uwani, Enugu State in 2016, by the Fulani herdsmen, Buhari ordered the Chief of Defence Staff to apprehend the culprits. Till today, no body has heard of the investigation again, and never will. That is the pathetic Fulani enclave we are living in.
Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, after much cry, arrested a hungry-looking Fulani teenager as a suspect in the Akegbe-Ugwu killings that saw a catholic seminarian, pregnant woman and her unborn baby killed. Just one hungry looking Fulani. Till today, after one year of the arrest, nobody knows the whereabouts of the Fulani boy, and nobosy has asked. Everyone has forgotten about the incident. The case has been closed, just like that!
