***BREAKING NEWS*** Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero is Dead!


One of Nigeria’s most prominent traditional rulers, Ado Abdullahi Bayero, the Emir of Kano is dead. The Emir, aged 87, died early today June 6th in Kano according to family sources. 


Over the years, Ado Bayero who has been the Emir of Kano since 1963 has survived many attempts on his life. In 1966 when the young Nigerian military officers stage the first militay coup that saw to the death of many
Nigerian leaders most of whom are of northern extraction, the Emir was then saved from mutiny, according to reports, by Lt. Colonel Odumegwu Ojukwu who was then the brigade commander of the Nigerian army in Kano.

More recently, on January 19, 2013, the Emir survived an attack from unknown gunmen who ambushed his convoy killing his driver, orderly, many aides and injuring his first son.

Former Governor of Nigeria's Central Bank, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, has never hidden his desire to replace the late Ado Bayero as the next Emir.
